Global Finals 2019 – Kansas City

Global Finals was a success! There were around 1100 teams from 17 different countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, United States, Panama, Qatar, Indonesia. Canada was represented by 6 provinces, and BC by 11 teams.

We want to congratulate team “BREAK THE ICE!” from Southlands Elementary School for their 8th place finish – first time DI team and first trip to Global Finals – way to go!!!

Chris Colfer Receives Destination Imagination Icon Award

Destination Imagination (DI) welcomed actor, singer, author and DI alumnus, Chris Colfer, to Global Finals 2019. Colfer, who participated in Destination Imagination during his junior and senior year in high school (2006-2008) will be the recipient of Destination Imagination’s first-ever Icon award, which is given to a DI alumnus or alumna who has made a game-changing contribution to their industry and who inspires current DI participants to achieve anything they can do in life. DI’s Alumni Council presented Colfer with the award at the Global Finals 2019 Welcome Ceremony on May 22, 2019.

Team Highly Addictive from California For the Destination Imagination 2018-19 Scientific Challenge, Medical Mystery

The teams had to:

  1. Research the human body and medical conditions that affect the human body.
  2. Create and present a story about a medical mystery that affects a human character.
  3. Design and build a representation that shows the medical mystery and at least one symptom.
  4. Present an action or scene that is shown from two or more perspectives at the same time.
  5. Show off the team’s interests, skills, areas of strength, and talents.

Team D Inventors from Washington For the Destination Imagination 2018-19 Engineering Challenge, Monster Effects

The Teams had to:

  1. Design and build a structure that can support weight without breaking.
  2. Test the structure by placing weights and then removing them.
  3. Create and present a story in which the sudden appearance of a monster has surprising results.
  4. Design and create a special effect to enhance the sudden appearance of the monster and/or the events surrounding the monster in the story.
  5. Show off the team’s interests, skills, areas of strength, and talents.

Global Finals 2019 Fine Arts Challenge, SL – 1st Place

The teams had to:

  1. Create and present a story that integrates research of a team-selected game.
  2. Create and present a game gizmo that causes an action or event to occur.
  3. Design and create a container that goes through a transformation.
  4. Design either the game gizmo or the container to be a technical element.
  5. Show off the team’s interests, skills, areas of strength, and talents.
